The first Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-final tie has been completed and it's left Aston Villa going to Wembley and West Brom stuck in the second tier for another year.

The Baggies got themselves level in the tie in the first-half at the Hawthorns last night but could not find that crucial second goal to help them progress.

Indeed, the game went all the way to penalties and that is where they eventually fell short, with Villa progressing to the final in just over a week from now.

A disappointing night, then, and questions are bound to be asked about the future of some players - striker Dwight Gayle included.

A key man in their challenge this year, he is only on loan from Newcastle with Salomon Rondon in a similar position on Tyneside.

Will we see the two make a permanent switch? That seems set to rumble on this summer but, for now, Gayle has had this to say:

The Verdict

You can see Newcastle wanting to keep Rondon and West Brom wanting to keep Gayle - but can both clubs strike a deal?

Certainly, both forwards have looked happy this season but, for Gayle, will he want to stay in the second tier? Some thrashing out seems on the way.
