‘Dreadful’, ‘I could do a better job’ – Many Middlesbrough fans critical of senior player following performance v Bournemouth

Middlesbrough’s chances of a top six finish were dented even further yesterday after falling 3-1 to AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

In what was always going to be a tough task against a powerful team when they are on-song, Boro succumbed to the mega-money team of the Cherries.

It was very evenly contested game in the stats, with Boro having eight shots to Bournemouth’s seven, but just one of them was on target for Neil Warnock’s men.

That was Duncan Watmore’s equaliser on 63 minutes, who cancelled out a first half strike from Philip Billing, but being on level terms only lasted three minutes as Jefferson Lerma put Bournemouth back into the lead, before Dominic Solanke sealed the victory late on.

Warnock left no stone unturned on his travels as he went for a very attacking line-up, including all of Neeskens Kebano, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Yannick Bolasie and Watmore from the start, but it failed to pay off in the end.

If you don’t get at least 15/20 on this Middlesbrough midfielder quiz, can you really call yourself a Boro fan?

When did Jonny Howson join Middlesbrough?

The Boro boss said post-match that their chances of the play-offs were now done, and one player in particular was getting criticism from the fans for the defeat.

Fulham loanee Marcus Bettinelli took the brunt of the criticism, with many fans hoping that the goalkeeper isn’t signed to a permanent contract from next season.
