Wigan Athletic defender Antonee Robinson's move to AC Milan has broken down, journalist Alan Nixon has reported.

Speaking earlier today, Wigan manager Paul Cook had confirmed that Robinson was en route to Italy to undergo a medical ahead of a move to the San Siro, although it seems that that is no longer the case.

According to Nixon's latest update, that move to Serie A is now off, with disagreement over the terms of the move meaning that Robinson is now flying back to England where he is likely to link back up with Wigan.

The left-back only made his loan move from Everton to Wigan permanent last summer, for a fee reported to be worth around £2million.

In total, Robinson has made 56 appearances in all competitions for the Latics, scoring once, with the left-back a standout feature in a difficult season for Wigan, who are currently 22nd in the Championship standings, four points adrift of safety.

Paul Cook's side are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Elland Road to take on league leaders Leeds United.

The Verdict

You have to feel for Robinson here.

The chance to move to a club the size of Milan will have been one he was surely relishing, so to see it fall through at the final moment will have been agonising.

Even so, this is likely to be a big relief for Wigan, given Robinson's ability means he could well be vital to any hopes they have of securing Championship survival in the next few months.

Indeed, if Robinson is able to play a big part in that, there is no reason he can't get the opportunity of a move to another big club when the window reopens again in the summer.
