Aston Villa remain in financial difficulty at the moment as they aim to put together a side that can challenge for promotion on a tight budget.

The fall-out since the play-off final has been well-documented but as things stand Dr. Tony Xia still wants to remain owner of the club and selling is a last resort.

He does, however, need to get more money in the club and, as per the Daily Mail, he has made moves to allow that to happen.

Xia is looking to bring in investment from people in China and has put a stake in the club up for sale as the club looks to raise funds.

To keep FFP at bay, the report refers to the fact that Villa need £40m and so this move will look to accrue at least some of that figure, if not all of it.

The Verdict

Xia doesn't want to sell if he can help it, that much is clear, but he's got to act and find a way to ease the club's financial woes.

This is a start, then, but it remains to be seen who comes in with an offer, what that offer is and ultimately, whether they're willing to work with Xia.
