Barry Douglas’ imminent arrival at Elland Road has sent shockwaves through the Championship.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers defender is due for a medical at Elland Road after the two clubs agreed on a fee in the region of £3million.

With the impending arrival of the left-back, head coach Marco Bielsa will be making his first permanent signing since his arrival in Yorkshire at the start of the summer.

Douglas was in imperial form for Wolves last season as they romped home to claim the Championship title in emphatic style.

The left-back scored five goals and assisted an astonishing 14 from the defensive potion.

The soon-to-be Leeds man will more than likely line up as a left-wing-back next season with the Leeds boss preferring to have three at the back.

That will be no problem for the Scotland international who is more than capable of marauding up and down the flank.

With Douglas’ arrival soon to be complete, FLW world look at the potential Leeds defensive set-up this coming season.

There is little that needs to be said about the 28-year-old.

He was probably the best left-back in the Championship last term, and by some considerable distance at that. Expect him to continue his scintillating form for his new side.

A menace on the attack, he will have to be more defensively sound this season as Leeds won’t have the same calibre of rearguard Wolves had the luxury of fielding last term.

But he is the quintessential left-wing back to fit in Marco Bielsa’s system.

Individually, they are all of a high enough quality to play in defence for Leeds.

This season will be slightly different with three centre-halves to be played in a change of system.

Leeds fans are more used to having a defensive duo as opposed to a triumvirate at the back.

Expect Jansson to be the leading man at the heart of the defence with Cooper and Berardi either side to help stop opposition attacks.

Berardi will occupy the left of the three with Cooper to the right of the pillar that is Jansson in the middle.

These three are more ball playing defenders with Jansson marginally the lesser of the three concerning their ability to step up from the back.

That is what Bielsa will be looking for with his wing-backs expected to cover when needed.

The former Bristol City man has been a hit with the Leeds supports since his move for Ashton Gate.

The club vice-captain has come along way in his two years at the club and with Douglas coming in, he is the more defensive minded of the two wing-backs.

Still not afraid to get forward, he managed one assist last term in his 27 appearances.

With the new left-back set to bomb forward, it could be the perfect opportunity for the former Yeovil man to develop the attacking skills that will make him more of an irresistible choice in the new-look Leeds line up next season.
