The Reds stunned the Championship after overturning Derby, one of the in form teams in the division, thanks to Nelson Oliveira, who's fifth minute strike set the team on to their first eight games.

It could be seen as papering over the cracks for Forest, who have had an unexpectedly dire start to the season.

Manager Freedman may have saved his job for another week, after many fans called for him to be sacked due to the club's atrocious start.

But the former Bolton boss wants his players to build on their East Midlands derby victory, and to boost themselves up the table.

He told the Nottingham Post: "This has to be a beginning for us now, this has to be something for us to build on. We have been producing good, solid performances, but this was a big win for us.

"We were in difficult moments, but we are still working behind the scenes to put a few wrong things right.

"We were saying before the game – bring it on. We needed something to spark us out of the difficult run we were in.

"I keep saying we are a good side. We just needed to take our chances and we took our chances in this game.

"We got on top and we did not give it up. Sheer hard work, determination and togetherness got us through. This was a very, very good Derby side and they kept passing and making us work for this."

Forest had been linked with a move for former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson, had Freedman been sacked, and it remains to be seen for how long he'll stay at the City Ground.

Forest currently sit in 18th position in the Sky Bet Championship, having amassed 17 points from 16 league games this season.
