Having lost 4-2 to QPR at the weekend, Blackburn Rovers lost Darragh Lenihan and Greg Cunningham to injury, with both awaiting scans on knee injuries.

During Blackburn’s loss at the weekend, Lenihan was forced off with injury, which could potentially end a run of successive starts, stretching back to August 10. Meanwhile, left-back Greg Cunningham was also withdrawn from the game through injury and replaced by Amari’i Bell after trying to continue.

While the international break could prove to be vital respite for the injured pair having withdrawn from duty, on-loan centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo will be looking to capitalise on this opportunity to stake a claim for starting Blackburn’s next fixture at home to Huddersfield.

Having been a regular fixture throughout last season for West Brom, making 36 appearances in all competitions, first-team opportunities have been hard to come by under Tony Mowbray. The on-loan Manchester City player has only featured in two games: a 2-0 win over Millwall, and a 2-0 loss at Fulham, both of which gave him injury setbacks of his own and kept him out of following games.

While this injury is unfortunate for the pair out, Adarabioyo will be seeing this as a great chance to gain some momentum and put a string of performances together after having setbacks of his own.

Having played a steady role in his appearances so far, not really setting the world alight, Adarabioyo will be seeing the next run of fixtures plus the sessions during the break as a chance to prove his worth and make his second loan move in the Championship worth while. He will be hungry to get more minutes on the pitch having clocked over 2000 minutes for West Brom last season and operating as both centre-back and right-back.

While he can play as a full-back, Adarabioyo will be more suited to being a direct replacement to Lenihan in the centre, as his average rating indicates better performances through the middle than on the right-hand side.

Mowbray had this to say back when the signing of Adarabioyo was confirmed: “We’ve been working on this deal for a good few weeks now and we’re delighted he’s here.

“He’s still a young boy, but the positive for me is that it’s his second season-long loan having spent the last campaign at West Bromwich Albion.

“I think he grew into their season and we’ll hopefully get the benefit of a confident and assured young guy who has amazing physical attributes.

“He’s 6ft 5in, he’s fast, mobile and good on the ball, just as you’d expect coming from a club like Manchester City.

“He’s played in the Champions League for them and we’re hoping that he’ll bring his talents here to help us win games,"

With the backing from the manager, Tosin Adarabioyo will be looking to finally repay the faith of his manager with good performances to nail down a position at centre-back. A testing fixture coming up in the shape of a resurgent Huddersfield could be just the game Adarabioyo needs to make the position his own with Lenihan unlikely to be risked if the scan comes back as feared.
