Former Bristol City assistant coach Jamie McAllister could reportedly be set to join up with ex-Robins boss Lee Johnson at Sunderland.

Reports have indicated that the Black Cats are set to appoint Johnson as their new manager in the next 24 hours, with the role vacant after Phil Parkinson was relieved of his duties last weekend.

McAllister played alongside the Englishman at City and then served as one of his assistants during his four years in charge of the South West club.

Both left the Robins earlier this year but it appears they could be set to reunite at Sunderland, with journalist Jon Palmer hinting that the 39-year-old might follow Johnson to the Stadium of Light.

It is understood that McAllister has been offered the chance to take charge of National League North side Gloucester City but he could turn that down as "he may have another offer in the North East" – indicating that the door is open for him to join his ex-teammate at Sunderland.

A string of names have been linked with taking charge of the Black Cats, with Gus Poyet, Sol Campbell, Danny Cowley and Paul Cook all thought to also have been interviewed.

Which club did Sunderland sign each of these 25 players from?

The Verdict

With reports suggesting that Johnson's appointment is close, it's no surprise to see that McAllister could be set to follow him to the Stadium of Light.

Having played together at City and then worked as part of his staff, the Scotsman is clearly someone that the former Robins boss trusts and someone that can help him to turn things around.

It's great to see Johnson closing in on a return to football and you feel that if he is given time, this could be a fantastic appointment for Sunderland.
