Sunderland U23s suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stoke City U23s last night, which has drawn some frustrated responses from many fans of the North East club.

The two sides met at Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground, the home of Sunderland's development and Ladies sides, in Premier League 2 on Monday evening.

The host's line up included some players to be on the fringe of the first-team squad, such as Benji Kimpioka, Bali Mumba, and Brandon Taylor.

The Black Cats were chasing the game almost from the very start, as 20-year-old Stoke striker Gabriel Kyeremateng headed the visitors into the lead in the third minute.

Sunderland had a number of good chances in both halves and a 90th-minute appeal for a penalty waved away but were unable to avoid slipping to yet another defeat.

The U23s remain bottom of the Premier League 2 Division 2 table with no wins, just one point, and a goal difference of -26 to their name.
