Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for August, which has divided opinion amongst fans of the club.

The Argentine coach was named on a four-man shortlist for the award, which also included Charlton Athletic’s Lee Bowyer, Swansea City’s Steve Cooper, and Bristol City’s Lee Johnson.

Under Bielsa’s lead, Leeds made a solid start to the 2019/20 campaign in August and climbed to third with 13 points from six games.

The Whites lost just once in the league all month and conceded the fewest goals of any side in the division.

The 64-year-old has helped his side quickly forget about the crushing play-off defeat last season and the departures of two key players, Kemar Roofe and Pontus Jansson.

You would imagine he would be the firm favourite for the award had his side not lost their last game of the month 1-0 to Swansea, which also meant they surrendered first place.

Bielsa’s nomination appears to have drawn a split reaction from Leeds fans with some suggesting he should win the prize and other worried it may be a curse.
