Football League World's West Bromwich Albion fan pundit Sarah Rudge has suggested the club should not recall loanees Jonathan Leko and Sam Field in January, despite their impressive form for Charlton Athletic this season.

The duo joined the Addicks on season-long loan deals on transfer deadline day but the Baggies are understood to have the option of recalling them in January.

Both have impressed under Lee Bowyer, featuring regularly as Charlton have climbed to second in the Championship table.

Despite their fast starts to life at the Valley, Rudge has said the club should not look to recall either Leko or Field at this point.

She explained: “I personally don’t think we should consider recalling them in January. Of course, if we have injuries then this may need to be looked at, but, otherwise, no.

“Diangana does have a recall option in his loan deal from West Ham United and with the ‘Harvey Barnes situation’ last season we know only too well that this could happen if Diangana continues to improve, so recalling Leko shouldn’t be ruled out in that scenario.

“In terms of Field, we have a plethora of central midfielders at the club and I can’t see any reason to recall him.”

Charlton are currently above West Brom in the league but Rudge has indicated she is not concerned that the loanees may be helping a potential promotion rival.

She said: “If they are doing well with Charlton it means they are maturing and developing as players, which can only be a good thing for us when they do return to West Brom.

“Charlton have had a good start to the season but with no disrespect to Lee Bowyer’s side, I don’t really see them maintaining their form for the whole season and being one of our promotion rivals.

“Being newly promoted I am sure their fans would take survival and if they keep impressing as they are that should be well within their reach.”

Rudge added that she felt the Baggies should “certainly not” loan out any more members of their squad in January.

She explained: “Throughout the course of the Championship season we are bound to pick up injuries and suspensions along the way and we can’t leave ourselves with a threadbare squad.

“If anything I still think we are one player short in the attacking department and should be looking to bring in a striker in January, not reducing the size of the squad.”
