Last season saw Steve Bruce guide Sheffield Wednesday from a potential relegation scrap into brief play-off contention before settling safely in mid-table.

It was a run of form that really got the fans excited for the coming campaign, however, any optimism built from their strong finish was extinguished last week.

Bruce was officially appointed at St. James's Park  in controversial circumstances and Wednesday have now revealed that they have reported Mike Ashley's club to the Premier League over their conduct.

The statement went out late on Monday night but confirmed that the top-flight were now investigating the appointment.

Bruce only took over at Hillsborough in February after Jos Luhukay was sacked just before Christmas, with the club allowing the former Aston Villa boss extra time off for personal reasons.
