A big summer lies ahead for Nottingham Forest.

After another below-par season, Forest seem to have secured themselves a mid-table finish and their fans will already be thinking ahead to the 2018/19 campaign, where they hope that the Reds can be competing for promotion rather than worrying about the possibility of relegation.

Aitor Karanka will have his plans for how to alter his current squad ahead of next term and he could use this upcoming summer transfer window to overhaul his squad and have a major revamp at Nottingham Forest.

Most of this squad was inherited from Philippe Montanier and Mark Warburton and plenty of players are out of favour under the new manager.

You can expect a very busy summer of activity at Nottingham Forest with plenty of activity.

Here are three gambles that Karanka should seriously consider this summer as they could pay off and improve Nottingham Forest drastically.

There are so many players in the Nottingham Forest squad who have under-performed and Karanka could consider culling them.

The likes of Jason Cummings, Jamie Ward, Armand Traore, Michael Mancienne, Thomas Lam, Apostolos Vellios and many more could be axed this summer.

This could go one of two ways; either it is unhealthy to alter the squad balance quite so drastically or the new squad will improve their performance and shoot Forest up the table.

Nottingham Forest have sent a lot of players out on loan this season and they could look to use them next term rather than bringing in new ones.

Tyler Walker and Zach Clough could make an impact up front or Jorge Grant could be given a chance in the midfield.

This would be a risk as these players were not deemed ready last season but perhaps they have the hunger to prove a point.

Two possible signings that Nottingham Forest could make are the captures of Jack Colback and Michael Dawson.

Colback has played well on loan at Forest but is on quite high wages and they might consider other options.

Dawson is a solid and experienced campaigner at the top level but, at the age of 34, it is a risk because he might not have that many years left in him.
