QPR manager Mark Warburton has told West London Sport that contract talks with star man Bright Osayi-Samuel are ongoing but indicated the club are ready to take a strong stance in order to look after themselves moving forward.

The 22-year-old's current deal is set to expire next summer, meaning he could walk away as a free agent if he doesn't sign a new contract.

Warburton has indicated talks are ongoing but added: "Sometimes you have to be strong and firm. QPR will do what’s best for QPR. We have to.

“We have to look after QPR and although there might be some short-term pain, I think it’s longer-term gain.”

Following the manager's comments, could the R's be set to cash in on Osayi-Samuel in January?

We asked our FLW writers for their thoughts...

The comments from Warburton are a little bit concerning.

I’ve said all along, I feel like Osayi-Samuel should sign up and stick around in west London, but the longer this goes on, I’m not convinced he will.

If it was his intention to stay, I honestly think he would’ve got the deal signed by now and these negotiations wouldn’t be happening.

Warburton is in a tough situation, as it’s probably not his deal to negotiate, but the way he’s talking, it’s like he’s been told he’s going to lose one of the Championship’s most exciting wingers.

It’s hugely frustrating.

Paulo Sousa? Warnock? Who was the QPR manager when each of these 15 R’s moments happened?

Queens Park Rangers don't have much choice but to cash in on Bright Osayi-Samuel.

Funds are limited throughout the EFL but particularly at QPR who have had their share of financial issues in recent years.

The club have a business model of profiting on the young players that they are developing and in Bright Osayi-Samuel they have a valuable asset.

With a contract that expires in the summer it seems inevitable that he is going to leave the club, and to lose him for nothing is unthinkable.

If Osayi-Samuel is not going to pen a new deal then QPR have to cash in otherwise it'll be a disaster to lose their most valuable asset for near to nothing.

In truth, I can.

This Osayi-Samuel contract situation is turning into a bit of a saga now at the club, and just when you think a new deal is going to be secured for the player, there seems to be a hitch.

You get the vibe that the longer this carries on, Warburton and QPR may just need to cut ties and make money on the player in the January transfer window.

Osayi-Samuel is undoubtedly one of QPR's most prized assets at this time, and he's a real key cog in the R's team - providing attacking thrust and energy down the right-flank.

He'd be a big miss, but you feel talks will reach an impasse sooner rather than later and I can see several Premier League sides testing the waters in January to try and snap up the talented winger.
