Yesterday saw Sunderland relegated to the third tier for only the second time in their history, something that will doubtless cause repercussions and recriminations across Wearside.

From players to owner and back again, fans will know which individuals they blame for the club's demise. Even outside the North East, pundits will have their opinions on what they feel went wrong for Chris Coleman's men.

One pundit who is never backward at coming forward is Stan Collymore and he's given his verdict on the situation in his usual straight-talking fashion. He's not only condemned those in control of the club, but issued a warning to fans of other sides tempted to gloat at their demise.

He tweeted: "Sunderland. What an awful tale of p*** poor ownership, reckless decision making, and people welcomed at our great football clubs with no understanding of the sport whatsoever. Disgusting. Don't gloat, may be your club some day."

Sunderland's relegation was confirmed courtesy of a 2-1 defeat against Burton Albion this weekend, with the Brewers still in with a chance of survival as they face Bolton Wanderers next weekend.

The Verdict

Stan is right, the club have been mismanaged and poorly handled for a few seasons now. Bad recruitment hasn't helped, nor has the situation with players such as Darron Gibson and Jack Rodwell.

There's a root and branch overhaul coming, there has to be, but until new owners are found can that ever be truly effective?
