Stan Collymore is never one to shy away from the pressing issues of the day and he's been offering his assessment of the situation at Sunderland.

In a heart-felt tweet he lamented the ownership of the club and suggested opposition fans shouldn't gloat as it could just as easily happen to them.

Sunderland became only the fifth club to suffer successive relegations from the Premier League into League One and will now feature outside the top two divisions for only the second time in their history.

The fear of being mocked caused Sunderland to close cash turnstiles this weekend as Newcastle fans had threatened to turn up to a 'relegation party'. That came hot on the heels of cancelling tickets in the away end for their upcoming match against Wolves for exactly the same reason.

Whilst some fans have shown sympathy in response to Collymore's tweet, many have suggested that gloating is part and parcel of the game, as well as pointing out Sunderland fans behaviour when Newcastle were relegated in 2015/16.

Here are some of the responses from rival fans, be warned, there's little sympathy shown for the Black Cats plight.
