Nigel Clough has today significantly improved the size of his Burton Albion squad, making three acquisitions – the clubs official site has confirmed.
Journeyman Lloyd Dyer, promising prospect Ryan Delaney and ex-Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers player Lee Williamson have all joined up with Albion with the Sky Bet Championship campaign kicking off in just under two weeks time.
Lloyd Dyer joins The Brewers’ on a one-year-deal, after his contract expired at Burnley at the end of last season. He has played a career spanning over 15 years – making 439 appearances in total; during this time he has scored 60 goals at a rate of a goal every 483 minutes on the pitch, and has made 43 assists.
When talking about Dyer, Clough said:
‘He’s 33 years old and I think his experience will be vital for us this season We are a little bit short in wide areas and Lloyd will provide that outlet, especially if we are under the kosh’.
Ryan Delaney joins The Brewers’ on a two-year deal, with the club having the option of triggering a further year. The centre back j0ins the club from League of Ireland side Wexford Youths FC; where he made 16 appearances – scoring one goal.
The 19-year-old joins a Brewers’ defence that was the best in Sky Bet League One last year – and one of the best across England’s top four divisions.
When speaking about the signing of Delaney, Nigel Clough said:
‘He’s only 19 and hasn’t yet played at a decent level but he does a lot of things naturally’.
Another player to join the club on a one-year-contract is 34-year-old vastly experienced midfielder Lee Williamson.
Williamson has played for a string of clubs in his massive career, including the likes of: Sheffield United, Preston North End, Portsmouth, Watford and most recently Blackburn Rovers.
The Jamaican international’s experience in the Sky Bet Championship could prove pivotal for Burton this season, Williamson has made a total of 186 appearances in the league, scoring 10 goals and assisting 11 during this time.
When speaking about the acquisition of Williamson, the Burton boss proclaimed:
‘Lee is a vastly experienced midfielder in the Championship and is the second international who’s joined us in the last 10 days’
So.. Burton fans, what do you think of these acquisitions? Is Clough building a squad that can survive the drop? Who do you want to see him buy? Leave thoughts and opinions below!
