Done Deal: Wigan sign Middlesbrough winger on permanent deal

Sky Bet League One side Wigan Athletic have confirmed on their official website the signing of Yanic Wildschut from Middlesbrough.
The 24-year-old joins for a reported fee of £1 million and has signed 3-and-a-half year contract at the DW Stadium. This signing marks a real statement of intent from Wigan to the rest of the division as they seek an immediate return to the Championship.
The Dutchman had been on loan at Gary Caldwell’s side previously and had clearly done enough to make the deal permanent, much to his delight.
Wildschut has said, “I have loved playing for Wigan, everyone at the club has been great to me, the fans sing my name, and I’m so happy that everything is now done. I can concentrate on playing now again and helping us climb the table.”
Wildschut has a great deal experience in the Dutch Eredivise with the likes of VVV-Venlo and Heerenveen.
Although his time at the Riverside didn’t quite work out, Latics fans will hope a permanent move to their side will help him recapture the form that prompted Middlesbrough to sign him in the first place.
Wigan currently lie in 5th place in League 1, and are 6 points outside of the automatic promotion places. Caldwell will be hopeful that a strong transfer window can help his side diminish that gap and achieve their target of promotion.
