Gavin Massey has signed for Wigan Athletic, the club's official website has confirmed.

Wigan Athletic have begun preparations for the upcoming 2016/17 campaign in the third tier of English football again and have beaten off competition to sign Gavin Massey on a free transfer.

Massey played for Leyton Orient last season in League Two but could not prevent the O's from getting relegated to the National League.

Amid turmoil off the field, Massey proved to be one of Leyton Orient's star performers but he spent a period of time on the sidelines when the senior players were not getting paid.

Massey scored eight times for Leyton Orient last season in 36 league games.

As part of his contract, he had the option to release himself from his contract in East London rather than stay with the club in non-league.

Arriving as a free agent, Gavin Massey put pen to paper on a two year deal at the DW Stadium, committing his future to Wigan Athletic until the summer of 2019.

During his career, the 24-year-old has played for Watford, Yeovil Town, Colchester United and Leyton Orient, amassing an impressive haul of 225 league games already despite his young age.

Predominantly a winger, Massey is renowned for his skill, pace and direct approach.

The speedy forward can also play as a striker and he will be hoping to kick on after securing a move to League One.
