Walsall defender Rico Henry has put pen-to-paper on a new three-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2018, the club have confirmed.
The left-back has made 21 appearances for the Saddlers senior team and has consolidated himself in recent weeks as the club’s first-choice in his position.
Speaking exclusively to the Walsall official site, Dean Smith spoke of his admiration for the young left-back.
“He’s a good young player for us and we felt he’d earned the right to a new contract.
“We agreed a deal with Rico and he’s signed a new contract for this year and another two.
“It’s really good news for the football club and hopefully he can continue his fine development.”
After signing his first professional contract with the Saddlers on 30th July 2014 after progressing through their youth system, Henry made his senior debut on 9th December 2014 in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Semi-final with Tranmere.
Since then, he has gone from strength to strength as a player and he scored the winner in Tuesday night’s league clash with Scunthorpe in a 1-0 win.
Henry will now be hoping to help his team-mates extend their excellent start to the season in Saturday afternoon’s away tie with Wigan Athletic.
Walsall currently sit second in Sky Bet League One after accumulating an impressive 21 points from their first 10 games.
