Done Deal: Walsall sign Scunthorpe United defender as Rico Henry departs

Walsall have confirmed on their official website that they have completed the signing of Scott Laird on loan until January 2017.

After selling Rico Henry to Brentford, Walsall had to act quickly to snap up a left-back before the window slammed shut. They have swooped in and signed Scott Laird on loan from fellow League One side Scunthorpe United, initially until the 10th January 2017.

The 28-year-old has vast experience having amassed over 400 senior appearances for a number of clubs, including Stevenage and Preston North End.

After playing 230 league matches for Stevenage and then over 100 for Preston, Laird joined Scunthorpe last summer and played 32 times for the League One side.

Laird has found game time more difficult to come by this season, however, and is allowed to leave on loan to get regular football.

The former Scotland youth international is an attack-minded left-back and he becomes Walsall’s fifteenth signing in this summer window.

Walsall fans – what do you think? Is Laird a good replacement for Henry? Can you cope with the loss of your star left back?

Scunthorpe fans – are you disappointed to lose Laird? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below…
