Sunderland have completed their first signing of the summer after suffering relegation to the Championship last year.

The club's official website has confirmed the arrival of Brendan Galloway, who joins on a season long loan deal from Premier League Everton.

In a bid to further his development with regular game time, full-back Brendan Galloway has opted to drop into the Championship with Sunderland.

Naturally a left-back, Galloway can also operate at centre-half, which makes him a useful versatile option to have at the back.

The England under-21 international, who is also eligible to play for Zimbabwe, is expected to compete with his former Everton team mate Bryan Oviedo for the left-back spot if the Costa Rican stays at the Stadium of Light.

Under-23 star Thomas Robson will also be in contention for a first-team spot.

After joining Everton from Milton Keynes in 2014, Galloway plied his trade in the academy side for a bit before making his Toffees debut in May 2015.

The 2015/16 season proved to be fruitful for the youngster as he successfully deputised for the injured Leighton Baines and played 15 times in the Premier League.

Last season was less productive for Galloway as he failed to make an impact during a loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.

He played just 5 games in all competitions and will be hoping that his loan move to Sunderland produces more success.
