Sky Bet Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have signed Norwich City striker Gary Hooper on a season-long loan deal, a club insider from the Owls has informed Football League World.
FLW have been informed that the Owls will be parting with a sizeable loan fee to lure the ex-Celtic striker to Hillsborough.
Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal indicated that he is still looking to bolster his side before the end of the summer window, even though he refused to name any targets.
“Let’s see in the next few days. I believe we will be stronger in the future’’, said Carvalhal after a 1-1 away draw with Leeds United.
“The transfer window is open until September 1 so let’s see what happens”.
Hooper joined the Canaries from Scottish giants Celtic for £5 million in 2013, having scored 82 goals in 138 games for the Scottish side, where he won two league titles and two cups.
Even though not as productive, his move south of the border has yielded in 20 goals in 69 appearances and an immediate return to the Premier League, where he is yet to start a game this season after featuring as a substitute in the opening game against Crystal Palace.
Sheffield Wednesday fans will surely be delighted to sign a player of this calibre, and it is a major sign of intent by the club’s manager and Thai owners.
