Highly-rated Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with the Owls, the club have confirmed.
The 26-year-old joined the Owls on a one-year contract in the summer, following the expiration of his contract with Premier League side Crystal Palace, after the midfielder wasn’t in manager Alan Pardew’s plans for the future.
The Scotland international joined Crystal Palace in September 2013 from Aston Villa, but failed to make a lasting impression, spending time out on loan with Bolton Wanderers last season.
Bannan is a product of the Celtic Glasgow youth system representing their under-17 squad before making the switch to Aston Villa’s under-18 team back in July 2004.
The former Aston Villa man has looked impressive for the Owls this season and has managed to find the net twice in 22 appearances in all competitions.
Wednesday are currently seventh in the Championship, two points behind sixth-placed Ipswich and will be hoping they can secure themselves in the top-six come May, following an impressive season so far under manager Carlos Carvalhal.
Wednesday Fans…. What do you make of the news? Are you happy that Bannan has committed himself to the club? Who else would you like to see your club sign this month? Let us know in the comments below!
