Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Portuguese midfielder Filipe Melo has joined Liga NOS club F.C. Paços de Ferreira on loan until the end of the season, the official club site have confirmed.

The 27-year-old midfielder joined compatriot Carlos Carvalhal at the South Yorkshire club, however, he has severely failed to make an impression.

The Portuguese midfielder has struggled to adapt to life in England having only made five appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, since joining from Moreirense during the 2014/15 season.

It was anticipated that Filipe Melo would be likely to leave Sheffield Wednesday in this transfer window, the holding midfielder hasn't played a single minute this season for the Owls.

Filipe Melo has returned to his native country to join F.C. Paços de Ferreira, Vasco Seabra will be hoping that Melo can re-find his form that earned his move to Sheffield Wednesday.

If Melo can impress whilst on loan at F.C. Paços de Ferreira, Carlos Carvalhal may be tempted to allow the midfielder to leave on a permanent basis, as his future at Sheffield Wednesday seems to be coming to an end.
