Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed on their official website that young defender Ciaran Brennan has signed his first ever professional contract with the club.

Brennan has put pen-to-paper on a professional deal at Sheffield Wednesday, although the length is not specified.

The versatile defender plays either as a right-back or as a centre-half and he has impressed in Wednesday's academy set-up over the past few years.

Brennan joined the Owls as an under-14 player back in 2013 and five years later, he has penned his first professional deal.

The teenage starlet has also proven his leadership for the young Sheffield Wednesday side as he is the vice captain of the under-18 side.

The Republic of Ireland under-18 international is also proud to represent his country in addition to starring in Wednesday's youth sides.

On his new deal, Brennan told the Sheffield Wednesday website: “This is the proudest day of my life. It’s one of the things you dream about becoming a professional footballer. It’s a proud day for myself and my family."

This news follows the update that young duo Jack Lee and Warren Clarke signed contract extensions while prospects Dan Wallis, George Hirst and Sean Clare have all been offered fresh terms.

The Verdict

Brennan is highly-rated by the Owls and has earned his new deal. With versatility and youth international experience already on his side, the 17-year-old is one for the future. Brennan now needs to put in the hard work to ensure that he is able to complete the step-up from youth level to senior football.
