Sheffield United have secured Northampton Town coach Chris Wilder as their new boss following the sacking of Nigel Adkins, report their official Twitter feed.
The Blades sacked Adkins earlier today after a last day defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe United condemned them to their lowest league position since 1983.
He had only been in charge for under a year, though sections of the Bramall Lane support were vocal in their dislike of the current regime towards the end of the season.
Now, Cobblers chief Wilder has been brought to the steel city in order to mount a promotion push for next season.
The 48-year old led Town to a stunning League Two title win recently in a season marred by financial uncertainty early on.
He saw talks with Charlton Athletic break down after being given permission to speak to the Addicks, though a move to Sheffield has obviously been too hard to resist.
Is Wilder a good replacement for Adkins? Can he lead the Blades to promotion?
