Done Deal: Sheffield United defender terminates contract with America move imminent

Sheffield United defender Neill Collins is joining Tampa Bay Rowdies, Radio Sheffield’s Andy Giddings has reported on his Twitter account.

The Scottish defender has agreed to have his contract mutually terminated by the club, and is now free to leave, with a move to Tampa Bay expected to be completed shortly.

Collins joined the club in 2011 and has gone on to make close to 200 appearances for the Blades, who lie in 12th place in League One approaching this weekends game with Oldham.

The defender has experienced relegation and a play-off final defeat while at Bramall Lane, and has been targeted by fans this year as the season has not gone to plan for United.

Collins, now 32, will see the move as a fresh start for him and his family, and will no doubt be looking forward to the challenge of playing over in America.

For the Blades, it is another wage cleared off their already high bill, and Nigel Adkins will no doubt now look into the loan market to secure a replacement.

Sheffield United fans…What do you make of the news? Will Collins be missed? Where would you like Adkins to reinvest the funds that have been saved from this move? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
