Sheffield United have sent Ben Heneghan out on loan for the season, the club's official website has confirmed.

Heneghan joins League One side Blackpool on loan for the 2018/19 campaign.

The 24-year-old joined Sheffield United last summer but has been deemed surplus to requirements at Bramall Lane, playing just one match - which was a cup clash with Preston North End back in January.

Prior to his time with Sheffield United, Heneghan had impressed at non-league Chester before making a name for himself north of the border with Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.

The centre-half signed a three-year contract last summer but was put up for transfer during this close season after failing to break into Chris Wilder's plans.

Heneghan will now head to Blackpool to reignite his stalling career.

Blackpool have moved to strengthen their defence after losing Clark Robertson to Rotherham United, Kelvin Mellor after his contract expired and Curtis Tilt is also attracting attention from Championship sides.

The Verdict

This is a good move for all parties.

Sheffield United do not need Heneghan and can shift his wages off their books temporarily, while Blackpool really need defensive reinforcements and their new arrival fits the bill.

Heneghan's career will benefit from this move too as he aims to impress in League One before a big summer next year.
