Championship outfit Aston Villa have confirmed on their official website that midfielder Jordan Veretout has signed a permanent deal with Serie A side Fiorentina.
The 24-year-old moved to Villa Park back in 2015 after a long association with French club Nantes, but was unable to make any sort of meaningful impact in his two-year stay in the Midlands.
The midfielder made 25 Premier League appearances for the club in his first season but was unable to inspire them to safety, failing to net at all during the campaign, before being shipped out on loan to Saint-Etienne for the entirety of last season.
And it appeared that the Ligue 1 outfit would seal a permanent deal for him this summer, with reports in the last few weeks suggesting so, yet it is Italian side Fiorentina that have indeed ended his Villa nightmare by officially sealing a deal for the Frenchman.
The Serie A club finished eighth in the Italian top-flight last season yet ten points adrift of the Europa League group stage spots, and will likely be aware that serious reinforcements are needed to challenge the likes of Lazio and Atalanta for those positions next term.
And they clearly feel that Veretout could aid them in that quest, given his decent record on the continent during his career, yet after an ill-fated time at Villa they’ll hope that he can re-discover his Nantes form in Italy next time round.
And with a reported fee of €7 million, Villa boss Steve Bruce will surely look to reinvest that in his playing squad so that they can compete for promotion from the Championship next season.
