Scunthorpe have signed Rotherham United midfielder Richie Smallwood on loan until the end of the season, the club’s official website has confirmed.
The player, who has been a regular for the Millers so far, making five appearances in all competitions, has made 112 appearances whilst at the New York Stadium, and previously been capped at Under-18 level for England.
The 25-year-old is also formerly of Middlesbrough, making 72 appearances for their first team, and his next challenge will be guiding Scunthorpe, who are currently sat in third place, to the Championship.
He joins the likes of Jack Dyche, Sam Mantom and Josh Morris as summer signings by Graham Alexander, and will play alongside Mantom, Jamie Ness and Stephen Dawson in central midfielder.
Alexander preferred Duane Holmes, Mantom and Morris in the victory over Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, so will have some work to do in order to displace the current starters.
