Former Fulham and Reading defender Stephen Kelly has signed a contract with Sky Bet Championship side Rotherham United, the club has confirmed on their official website.
The 32-year-old right-back has a wealth of experience available to him after playing in the Premier League with five different clubs, as well as earning 38 caps for the Republic of Ireland.
He left fellow Championship side Reading in the summer after three years with the club, and he has been training with Neil Redfearn’s men for the past two weeks.
He has clearly impressed the Millers’ boss and he has now signed a deal with the club until the end of the season. He becomes the second signing of the week for Rotherham, following the arrival of Leon Best yesterday.
Rotherham currently sit bottom of the Championship after collecting just nine points so far this season and they face Leeds United on Saturday, as Redfearn returns to Elland Road for the first time since leaving the club in the summer.
Kelly will go straight into the squad, with Redfearn hoping that his vast experience at this level will rub off on a defence which has already conceded 33 goals this season, which is by far the most in the second tier.
Rotherham fans…what do you make of the signing? What do you think Kelly will bring to the team? Will he improve your side’s leaky defence? Let us know your thoughts and opinions the comments below!
