Reading have announced the arrival of Sone Aluko from Fulham on the club’s official website.

Fulham accepted an undisclosed fee for Aluko, but reports yesterday suggested that Reading have paid something around £7.5m for the forward.

Aluko has signed a four-year contract at the Madejski Stadium, committing himself to Jaap Stam’s side until the summer of 2021.

The 28-year-old has a wealth of experience in British football, particularly over the last five-years during spells with Hull City and Fulham.

During his time with Hull in East Yorkshire, Aluko made a combined total of 90 league appearances in both the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship over a four-year spell.

His final season at Hull saw Aluko make 25 appearances and score three goals in the Championship, as the Tigers sealed promotion to the Premier League in 2016.

Last summer, Aluko made the switch to Fulham, where he was again vital in a club’s quest for promotion, helping Slavisa Jokanovic’s side finish sixth during the 2016/17 campaign.

The forward made 50 appearances across all competitions and scored nine goals, but could not prevent Fulham losing the play-off semi-final to his new employers, Reading.

So far this season Aluko has made four Championship appearances for Fulham, but now links up with Reading and could make his debut after the international break, when the Royals face Bristol City.

The Verdict

Aluko has a lot of attributes that will benefit Reading, as he has pace and skill and can provide a cutting edge for Stam’s side in the final third.

Over the last five-years, Aluko has been a key part of both a Hull and Fulham squad that have challenged for promotion in the Championship, and Stam will be hoping that the forward can have a similar impact following his arrival at the Madejski.

Reading fans will be hoping for an exciting end to the summer transfer window, with many still hoping to see the arrival of a ‘number nine’ following Aluko’s capture.
