Reading FC have announced on the club's official website that defender Liam Moore has penned a contract extension with the club.

Liam Moore signs a new long term deal with Reading to commit his future to the club.

After an impressive debut season at Reading, Liam Moore has been handed a new four year deal, extending his stay at the Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2021.

This news comes just a few days after John Swift signed a new long term deal with Reading too.

Liam Moore arrived last summer from Leicester City after his career was stalling with a lack of playing time.

After numerous loan spells, the 24-year-old took the decision to leave the Foxes, having played 67 games for the club he came through the ranks at.

His move to Reading was a thorough success.

Playing 47 games across all competitions in his first season in Berkshire, Liam Moore helped Reading to a 3rd place finish and they were narrowly beaten by Huddersfield Town on penalties in the play-off final.

Of those 47 games that the former England under-21 international played, he started all of them, proving how much of a central role he played in Jaap Stam's plans.

The Verdict

It hasn't been the busiest of summers for Reading in terms of new arrivals but in the last week, Reading have arguably made their two most important signings.

First John Swift and now Liam Moore: Brian Tevreden has tied these star players down to new contracts and surely fended off approaches from the Premier League for the near future.

Able to play as a centre back or as a right back, Moore is quick, strong, young and versatile at the back.

His talents are superior to Championship level so Reading will face a battle to keep him if they do not go up next season.
