Reading FC have announced the signing of Vito Mannone on the club's official website.

Reading have completed the signing of goalkeeper Vito Mannone after agreeing an undisclosed fee with Sunderland.

Mannone puts pen to paper on a long term contract at the Madejski Stadium, committing his future to the Royals until the summer of 2020 with a three year deal.

The former Arsenal academy product is the direct replacement for Ali Al-Habsi, who departed the club earlier this week.

After picking up Reading's Player of the Year award for two seasons running, Ali Al-Habsi decided to sign a three year contract with Saudi Arabia based outfit Al Hilal.

Reading have moved quickly to secure a replacement by snapping up Vito Mannone from Championship rivals Sunderland.

The former Italian under-21 international leaves Sunderland this summer after spending four years at the Stadium of Light.

The 29-year-old, who has also represented Barnsley and Hull City during loan spells in the past, lost his starting place in the Sunderland line-up last year to Jordan Pickford.

Rather than stay with Sunderland, Mannone has opted instead to make the switch to Reading.

Sunderland, however, are now short in that area.

The Black Cats will have to explore the market for a new goalkeeper after the departures of Jordan Pickford (to Everton) and Vito Mannone leave them with Mika as their only senior stopper.
