Sky Bet League One side Gillingham have confirmed on their official website the signing of promising defender Baily Cargill from Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth on a loan deal until January.
Cargill, who can play anywhere across the backline, has become Gillingham’s 12th summer signing and second loan arrival from the Cherries.
The 21-year-old versatile defender made his debut for Bournemouth in a 2-0 victory against Exeter City in the League Cup in August 2014, and became a consistent starter in the competition. His impressive displays rewarded him a three-year contract lasting until the summer of 2017.
Cargill was sent out on-loan to Non-league team Welling United in October 2013, where he played 13 games. Towards the latter stages of the 2013/14 campaign, he joined Torquay United for another loan spell, making five appearances but failed to help keep the Gulls in the Football League.
In February this year, he joined Coventry City in a loan deal until the end of the 2015/16 season.
Cargill is the Gills’ fourth defensive arrival this summer, with Adedeji Oshilaja, Josh Pask and Paul Konchesky also joining the Priestfield outfit.
He is highly-rated at Bournemouth and, with seven caps at England Under-19 level, he is thought to have a bright future ahead of him.
