Championship side Preston North End have signed Manchester United midfielder Josh Harrop on a free transfer, the club’s official website have confirmed.
The 21-year-old is to join the Lilywhites when his contract expires at the end of the month, becoming the club’s third signing of the summer as they look to move up the Championship table.
Harrop was the talk of the nation on the final day of the Premier League season as he featured in the youngest ever Premier League side in history.
He scored a stunning goal that day on his Manchester United debut, a moment he will surely treasure, cutting in from the left before firing it into the bottom corner in the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
He signs a four-year-deal at Deepdale having emerged from United’s academy and impressing the class of 92 with his goals. He rejected a new deal at Old Trafford in search of first team football.
This is an exciting deal for Preston who’ve made a knack of signing up the Red Devils’ released youngsters, with Harrop joining Ben Pearson and Liam Grimshaw as formed United academy members.
And Lilywhites boss Simon Grayson will be hoping that his new signings can help his side improve upon their 11th place finish last term, and indeed get off to a good start when they host Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day on August 5.
