Championship side Preston North End have signed winger Aiden McGeady from Everton of the Premier League, the Championship side have confirmed on their Twitter account.
The 30-year-old was not assigned a squad number at Goodison Park for the 2016/17 season, and as a result has been the subject of speculation of a move to a host of clubs from the Championship.
McGeady spent the latter stages of last season on-loan at Sheffield Wednesday, but failed to be named in The Owls’ squad for both Play-Off semi-final legs and the final against Hull City at Wembley.
Aiden McGeady joined Everton in January 2014 for an undisclosed fee from Russian side Spartak Moscow and has made just short of 40 appearances for the Toffees since his arrival.
The Glasgow-born winger has made 85 caps for the Republic of Ireland, where his grandparents are from, but failed to make the cut for Martin O’Neill’s squad for the European Championships earlier this summer in France.
Preston have already signed defenders Alex Baptiste on-loan from Middlesbrough and Marnick Vermijl on a permanent basis from Sheffield Wednesday.
