Sky Bet League one side Barnsley have signed Preston midfielder Josh Brownhill on loan for an initial month, it was confirmed on the club’s official website.
The 20-year-old will now stay at Oakwell until February the 13th and is likely to go straight into head coach Lee Johnson’s squad for Saturday’s League One clash with Shrewsbury, who knocked Sky Bet Championship side Cardiff City out of the Emirates FA Cup recently.
The deal will help Barnsley fill the void that was left by former Manchester United midfielder Ben Pearson, who recently signed a permanent deal with Preston after spending two separate loan spells at Oakwell.
Tykes boss Lee Johnson told the club’s official website; “Josh is bright and energetic, he’ll fit into our group well,”
Brownhill has progressed through Preston’s youth system, and since breaking through has made a total of six appearances for Simon Grayson’s side in all competitions.
The youngster’s last appearance for Preston was in the 2-0 defeat to Peterborough in the Emirates FA cup last Saturday.
