Burgess has put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract at Fratton Park and signs for an undisclosed fee from League One side Peterborough United.

Pompey boss Paul Cook has monitored the situation with the central defender for some time now and has finally got his man.

Burgess played 33 times for Posh last season and scored four goals having bought him from Middlesbrough.

Shortly after signing the contract with his new club, Burgess spoke to the club’s official website.

He said to the club’s official site: “This is a massive club and the set-up down here is great. I got a call from the gaffer, had a look around and everything was first class.

“It doesn’t feel like a League Two club – there are more fans here than at most League One clubs to be honest.”
