Sky Bet League 2 side Portsmouth have signed Preston North End striker Eoin Doyle on loan until the end of the season, confirms an official club statement.

The 28-year-old striker joins Portsmouth who currently sit fifth in the Skybet League Two table, just two places and four points off the automatic promotion places.

The Republic of Ireland striker has been reunited with manager Paul Cook who Doyle worked with at both Sligo Rovers and Chesterfield.

Eoin Doyle was renowned as one of the most prolific goalscorers in the lower leagues, however, he was unable to replicate his goal-scoring form in the Championship for either Cardiff City or Preston North End.

As Doyle fell out of favour at Preston North End, Simon Grayson felt that a loan move to Portsmouth could be the best outcome for all the parties involved.

Paul Cook may decide to bring Eoin Doyle into the fold as soon as possible and give him an opportunity against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
