Portsmouth have confirmed that Ipswich Town striker Brett Pitman has joined the club on a three-year-deal.

The 29-year-old frontman arrives at Fratton Park for an undisclosed fee, bringing to an end his two-year spell at Portman Road.

Pitman has netted 130 goals in his 408 career league appearances, and will be expected to add firepower to the Pompey frontline as they prepare for their first season in the third tier since 2013.

The Jersey-born forward found the back of the net 14 times in 61 appearances for Mick McCarthy's Championship outfit, but the most prolific spells of his career have been on the South Coast, with Bournemouth.

Across two periods at the club, Pitman made well over 200 appearances and helped the club win their inaugural promotion to the Premier League, with 13 goals in 34 outings in 2014/15 for Eddie Howe's side.

His most notable contribution to that promotion campaign was a 'perfect' hat-trick, coming in March 2015 during the course of a 4-0 win over Blackpool, against whom Portsmouth will line up this campaign, after the pair were both promoted from League 2 last season.

The Championship is the division in which Pitman has spent the most time during his career, and Pompey boss Kenny Jackett will hope that experience at a higher level can make a significant difference to his new side.

However, Pitman is no stranger to League 1 either, with his 115 appearances in the third tier plundering 35 goals, along with 4 assists - Pompey fans will hope to see the 29-year-old hitman add plenty to that tally next season.
