Portsmouth have signed Louis Dennis on a free transfer, the club's official website has confirmed.

Dennis joins Portsmouth after his contract at non-league Bromley expired.

The winger, who can also play in a central attacking midfield role, played last weekend in the FA Trophy final at Wembley, where Bromley were defeated by Brackley Town on penalties.

Having been named in the National League Team of the Season, Dennis is finally set for his chance in the Football League again, having played eight games as a youngster coming through at Dagenham and Redbridge.

After numerous loan spells with non-league sides like Welling United, Grays Athletic and Canvey Island, Dennis joined Bromley on a permanent deal in February 2014.

The 25-year-old now leaves Bromley after four-and-a-half years at the club, during which time he has scored 47 goals in over 150 games.

That includes a haul of 21 goals in 54 appearances in the 2017/18 season.

Dennis now puts pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with Portsmouth, who are set for their second consecutive season at League One level after just missing out on the play-offs this term.

Pompey manager Kenny Jackett is looking forward to working with Dennis and he said: “He’s an exciting player with a lot of talent and someone we’ve been watching for quite some time."

The Verdict

With 21 goals and 12 assists in 54 games last season, Dennis was easily one of the most dangerous attacking threats outside of the Football League.

With pace, trickery and an eye for goal, he deserves his chance to shine at League One level.

Portsmouth will be hoping he has a similar impact to Jamal Lowe, who impressed after arriving from non-league.
