Plymouth Argyle have made their first signing of the summer, with attacking midfielder Ryan Donaldson making the move down to the South West; on a free transfer after leaving Cambridge, the club have confirmed.
Donaldson, who is known for having a powerful left foot, is a product of the Newcastle youth academy and has featured in England youth squads.
Donaldson had endured a tough time of things following the arrival of Shaun Derry at the U’s, being restricted to mostly making substitute appearances since Derry took over the hot seat of the club.
The 25-year old was a key player at Cambridge in the promotion season from the Conference, and the first season that the club returned to the Football League. Throughout his time at Cambridge – Donaldson made 98 appearances, scoring 17 goals in the process.
Contract length hasn’t been confirmed by the club, however last season Argyle didn’t tie a player down for more than a year – therefore it would seem probable that Donaldson will be on a one year contract at Home Park.
At Argyle, Donaldson will join another attacking midfielder in Graham Carey – and the Argyle faithful will be hoping that Carey and Donaldson can join forces in ensuring Argyle go one step further than last seasons heartbreak and secure promotion from the basement of the Football League.
So, Argyle fans… What do you think of this signing?
