Nottingham Forest have secured the service of Kieran Dowell on a season-long loan from Everton, the club have confirmed on their official website.

Dowell becomes Forest’s sixth signing of the summer so far, with Mark Warburton’s side looking to give the 19-year-old some much-needed first-team experience.

Everton’s spending spree this summer has seen Wayne Rooney and Davy Klaassen arrive at Goodison Park, whilst the Toffees are also chasing Gylfi Sigurdsson’s signature.

Dowell plays predominantly in the number 10 role, and his opportunities on Merseyside were looking limited heading into the new season, with it highly unlikely he would build on his three first-team appearances.

Forest will now benefit from Dowell’s talent during the 2017/18 campaign, as Warburton continues to reshape his squad following last season’s relegation battle.

Britt Assombalonga has left the City Ground, moving to Middlesbrough for £15m, but Warburton has improved his squad significantly with a number of arrivals.

Dowell becomes the latest arrival at Forest, following Jason Cummings, Andrea Bouchalakis, Tendayi Darikwa, Barrie McKay and Daryl Murphy into the City Ground.

There could be further arrivals between now and the end of the summer, with Forest also keen on Fulham’s Kevin McDonald.

Forest have renewed their interest in McDonald, but Fulham do not want to lose the influential midfielder, making a deal difficult.

Warburton’s side begin their Championship campaign against Millwall this weekend.

The Verdict

Dowell’s arrival is exciting for Forest, with the 19-year-old having a lot of potential.

The attacking midfielder will be full of confidence heading into the new season, after helping England’s under-20 squad win the World Cup earlier this summer.

Warburton will expect Dowell to be pushing for a place in the first-team next season, and his signing could prove to be another shrewd piece of business from Forest.

The £15m raised from Assombalonga’s sale has been spent strengthening Forest’s squad rather than just one area and they look a much healthier outfit heading into the new season.
