Sky Bet Championship outfit Nottingham Forest have signed Portuguese international Nelson Oliveira on loan for the rest of the season from Benfica, the club have confirmed.
Reports on transfer deadline day suggested Forest had tied up the deal to bring the forward to the City Ground for the 2015/16 campaign but it had not been officially announced until now.
The 24-year-old has struggled to hold down a place in the first team at Benfica and this will be his sixth loan of his career with his most recent being at Premier League side Swansea City, where he scored once in 10 appearances.
His loan moves have taken him across Europe with spells in Spain and France, but despite his club struggles, he has been a regular for his country, holding 14 caps, and was a part of the squad that reached the semi-finals at Euro 2012.
Forest manager Dougie Freedman will be delighted to have captured a forward experienced as Oliveira although his goalscoring record is less than prolific.
The Reds are of course under a transfer embargo after falling foul of the Financial Fair Play rules meaning Freedman’s hands are tied in the transfer market as he is only allowed to make loan signings and sign free agents.
Despite this, and the transfer window closing, chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi expects the club to sign three more players.
Forest are currently 16th in the Championship with five points from their first five matches.
