Norwich City have confirmed that reserve team goalkeeper Remi Matthews has rejoined Plymouth Argyle on-loan for the remainder of the season.

The 23-year-old joined The Pilgrims in October on an emergency loan deal after three senior professional goalkeepers were left sidelined through injury, before returning to Carrow Road a month later after picking up an injury of his own.

The young shot-stopper joined the Canaries as a teenager, but is yet to make his first-team debut for the club.

With opportunities at his parent side limited by the form of Manchester City loanee Angus Gunn, manager Daniel Farke has opted to send Matthews back to Devon, as boss Derek Adams attemps to guide his struggling side away from the League One relegations places.

Plymouth are the fourth club Matthews has enjoyed loan spells with, following stints at Burton Albion, Doncaster and Hamilton in Scotland.

The Verdict

Matthews is a talented young keeper with a bright future in the Football League, but must continue playing regular first-team football if he is to fulfill his potential.

With Gunn set to return to City at the end of the season, the starting spot at Carrow Road could be up for grabs, and should Matthews provide a good show of himself in League One, then there is no reason why the academy graduate should not be considered for the role.

Work hard and get his head down, and Matthews could earn the prestigious number one jersey at Carrow Road next season.
