Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi has joined Cardiff City on a season-long loan, the club have confirmed via Twitter.
The Bluebirds faced a tug of war with fellow Championship side Wolves to sign the Newcastle forward, but Ameobi has decided to join the Welsh club for the 2015-16 season after signing a new contract at St. James Park.
The 23 year-old has made 54 Premier League appearances for the Magpies to date and scored in fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City last season.
The former England U21 international will join up with manager Russell Slade and the rest of the squad at their pre-season training camp immediately and will be at the Cardiff City Stadium until 30th June 2016.
Ameobi, the younger brother of former Newcastle striker Shola, had a spell on loan in the Championship during the 2012-13 season at Middlesbrough, making nine appearances and scoring one goal.
Cardiff City CEO Ken Choo spoke to the club’s official website and said: “We’re delighted to have Sammy on board, having hand-picked him specifically for his creativity and skill.
“Sammy has Barclays Premier League experience to the tune of more than 50 top-flight appearances. We will continue to search for the right players who have specific skill sets and good character.”
