Done Deal: Newcastle United confirm midfielder deal

Published

on

Newcastle United have confirmed that Florian Thauvin has returned to his native France to link up with Marseille on a season-long loan deal.

The wide-man, who arrived in the North East from Marseille 12 months ago, arrived with big expectations, but he’s fallen short of the mark and returns back to his former side, whom he also spent the second half of last season with.

It might have been thought that Thauvin might have been in with a shot of making the Newcastle United side this season after featuring in four out of their five pre-season games but he’ll now return to France once again.

Marseille also have the obligation to make the move permanent, and option the French side will probably take up following Rafa Benitez’s appointment as Toon manager.

The Spaniard has been busy in the transfer window so far this season and has been quick to clear the deadwood where needed.
