Championship-bound Millwall have today confirmed on their official website that midfielder Shaun Williams has signed a new contract with the club.
The 30-year-old played a significant role in helping the Lions return to the second tier last season, appearing a staggering 56 times in all competitions to help Neil Harris’ men achieve promotion through the play-offs.
The Irishman also scored some key goals in victories over Sheffield United, Bristol Rovers, Bury, and Scunthorpe United to propel the Lions up the League One table, and his fine efforts last term has earned him a one-year extension at the Den, with the option of a further year.
Unsurprisingly, Williams was delighted to pledge his future to the club, telling the official website: ‘I’m really over the moon.
‘Having such success last season made it an easy decision for me to sign another contract.
‘I’m delighted to finally get it all sorted out.’
This will surely come as good news for Millwall fans as their side get ready to embark on a second tier campaign next season after just two terms in League One, both of which resulted in top six finishes.
And Williams will be all too aware of what the Championship has in store having joined Millwall back in January 2014, playing six months in the second tier but was unable to keep the Lions in the division.
Nonetheless, given his recurrent impressive displays last term, manager Harris will likely be thrilled to pen him down to a new deal as the Lions prepare for life in the Championship.
